Thermostatic radiator valves with remote sensors are used when a radiator is fitted into a confined space or behind a grill or guard.
A standard TRV will give a false signal in a confined area because of the lack of air movement and ambient temperature around the sensor head so a sensor with a capillary is required to accurately detect the actual room temperature which will in turn operate the thermostatic valve to open and close when required.

1 = about 12° C
2 = about 16° C
3 = about 20° C
4 = about 24° C
5 = about 28° C
The thermostat should be installed after all the building and decorating work has been completed.
The thermostatic head should be fitted so that the index mark is in uppermost position, it should then be held firmly and the coupling nut screwed tight.
Excessive force must not be used when tightening the nut. The fixing instructions are included in each box.
The capillary tube should be routed in such a way, that it is not damaged. Special care should be taken when fixing the clips, so that the tube is not squashed.
The sensor can be positioned either on a wall beside the radiator (approximately 3 ft. above floor level) but if this is not possible, underneath the radiator or half way between the floor and radiator.
Positioning the sensor near the radiator with free air space is preferable.
